JN studio explores the intersection of digital design and sustainable construction through the innovative use of bamboo. The studio supports capacity building and design for bamboo structures in regions where the material offers a viable path toward ecological restoration and climate resilience.
By integrating advanced digital tools with locally grounded craftsmanship and collaboration, JN studio promotes regenerative architectural practices that respond to both environmental and community needs for on the project and infrastructural scale.
Recognised for its pioneering work, the studio has received international acclaim, including the RIBA Rising Star Award in 2022 and the Foster + Partners Prize in 2013.

Dr John Naylor is a UK based architect and researcher. He studied architecture at the Architectural Association in London, graduating in 2013 winning the Fosters Prize for Sustainable Infrastructure for his thesis project which focussed on bamboo construction in Haiti to develop reforestation.
In practice for over 10 years, John has worked at Grimshaw and dRMM, London, MAD, Beijing, and the Singapore University of Technology and Design on complex cultural, residential and infrastructure projects in the UK, Singapore, Malaysia, China and Haiti, such as the Qingdao Eden Project, a range of private projects, and project managing a numerous initiatives for bamboo in the built environment around the globe.
In 2024 he gained his PhD in Engineering from Newcastle University with his research focussed on algorithmic thinking and digital tools, streamlining early stage design decisions to improve full-culm bamboo durability, and support clients and design professions on projects using full-culm bamboo.
